Artsy Fartsy in a good way!

This is a new design for a wedding invitation suite I've been toying with for a while... Any thoughts? It can be made in ANY color combo, shown here is Black, White, Silver. Each is hand drawn with glitter on a combination of recycled card stocks. It's a $40 dozen...

I wanted to do something a little edgier than the usual wedding styles out there. Is this a Hit or Miss?

Opinions? Suggestions?

Macaroons from Heaven

Oh what the French can do... Twice a year the Dovecote Interior Design Team goes to Paris on a magnificent treasure hunt. Not only do they come back with, literally, a ship load of fabulous antiques and other treasures, they smuggle decadent pastries from famed Laduree in their luggage for all of us left home. They last about 2 minutes.

The Ladurée story

The history of Parisian tea salons is intimately tied to the history of the Ladurée family.
It all began in 1862, when Louis Ernest Ladurée, a miller from France’s southwest, created a bakery at 16 rue Royale in Paris.
During the same year, the first stone of the Garnier Opera was laid, and the area surrounding the Madeleine was rapidly developing into one of the capital’s most important and elegant business districts. The most prestigious names in French luxury goods had already taken up residence in this neighborhood.
In 1871, while Baron Haussmann was giving Paris a ‘‘new face’’, a fire made access to the transformation of the bakery to a pastry shop. The decoration of the pastry shop was entrusted to Jules Cheret, a famous turn-of-the-century painter and poster artist. M Cheret sought inspiration from the painting techniques used for the ceiling of the Sistine Chapel and the Garnier Opera.
By incorporating them in his work, he added depth and relief to the ceilings ornamented with cherubic children.
Under the Second Empire, cafes developed and became more and more luxurious. They attracted Parisian high society. Along with the chic restaurants around the Madeleine, they became the showcases of the capital.
The beginning of this century found Paris wrapped up in a frenzy of distraction and going out in public. Parisians flocked to the Universal Exposition. Women were also changing. They wanted to make new acquaintances. Literary salons and literature circles were outmoded.
Ernest Ladurée’s wife, Jeanne Souchard, daughter of a well-known hotelier in Rouen, had the idea of mixing styles: the Parisian café and pastry shop gave birth to one of the first tea salons in town. The “salon de thé” had a definite advantage over the cafés: they permitted ladies to gather in freedom. Jeanne Souchard succeeded in combining the turn-of-the-century trend to modernism with knowledge of the merits of a craft transmitted by her family.
The rue Royale tea room was enlarged in 1930 by Pierre Desfontaines, second cousin of Louis Ernest Ladurée. When he retired, his son, Jean Marie, and his niece, Dominique, presided over the tea salon.
This site imbued with a refined atmosphere and charged with history seduced David Holder and his father Francis Holder, founder of the Holder Group. In 1993, they decided to buy this Parisian institution, and promote and enlarge the famous “Maison”. In September 1997, a new prestigious Ladurée address both a restaurant and tea room opened on the Champs-Elysées. The mission of the President David Holder is thus to bring back the great classics, which have contributed to the reputation of this ‘salon de thé’, as well as create an environment for gastronomic creativity in Paris. With him, Ladurée will be a tea salon, pastry shop, restaurant, chocolate shop and an ice cream parlor.

I Spy...

With the new year, I have decided to take the initiative and do a better job keeping up with my health. Since I don't have health insurance, this means some hefty expense but also peace of mind... (Don't get me started on the health debate). So today I took the first step and had a much over due eye exam. Glasses are such an extension of one's personality, so turning over a new leaf meant I could treat myself to an ocular makeover... What do you think of the frames I picked out for my new RX Sunglasses?

blue moon

Welcome 2010 and the dawn of a new decade!
If pigs found a way to fly in 2009 (swine flu), then it only seems fitting we start a new year with a Blue Moon! Lets hope that proves to be an omen for positives. Wishing you all health, wealth, and happiness!

classic

OK... I just can't help myself. I'm a total sucker for pretty theatrical sets and men in tights.

more folks I find fun...

Over the river and through the woods... On my recent trip up to the old family farm for Thanksgiving, tradition has it that my family makes the annual outing to the Troy Shirtmakers Building in Glens Falls, NY. What used to be a factory where ladies in old black and white photos would sit elbow to elbow sewing together men's shirts is now home to a thriving community of artists and other creative types. Over the years it has been fun to watch the dilapidated building come to life with new and exciting things. This year there were more new faces, renovations, and expansions from previous years despite the economic climate. Tom Myott Gallery had a wonderful show full of ceramics made by local artists including several talented folks I graduated high school with!! Another FABULOUS discovery was Flux Silver - a gallery/boutique housing exquisitely crafted silver jewelry and objects by a small group of artisans that have banded together... I was lucky to stumble upon this little gem as it celebrated its Grand Opening. Around the corner my mom and I signed up for a weekend crash course on natural fiber dying, and one floor down visited a very busy little tea shop... A few more winding stairs will land you at the queen bee of all quilting supply shops, and if you go around another bend you can experience holistic healing, massage, and reiki. I'm still not sure how many artists are there total at any given time, but it is definitely worth the trip if you yearn for a uniquely different afternoon.

**About KittyKatKards**
I have always really liked doing origami. Hallmark makes really nice things, but I feel that homemade/handmade gives everything a whole personal touch. I decided to put my two loves together by making cards that feature origami, and thus, KittyKatKards was born. I also using rubber stamps so some of my work features stamped images. I'm currently researching other origami that I can create to expand my horizons..."
